A historic day at Kegel Harley-Davidson

History Hwy headed to Rockford, Illinois, for a pretty incredible day at Kegel Harley-Davidson as the dealership celebrated its recognition as the oldest family-owned Harley-Davidson dealership in the world.

I came to document the event, but the day turned into much more than I expected. I had the opportunity to interview Katrina Kegel and talk about the dealership and what this recognition means to the family and the Rockford community.

I also sat down with Ellie Rains, founder of Midwest Women Riders, whose organization brought women riders together in Rockford this summer for an extraordinary record-setting event. As a woman rider myself, getting to hear her story and talk about the growing community of women in motorcycling was especially meaningful.

And then came one of those History Hwy moments I couldn't have planned: I had the opportunity to interview Karen Davidson, a member of the Harley-Davidson family. Sitting across from someone whose family name is literally on the motorcycle I ride was a little surreal.

That's what I love about making History Hwy. I can get on my Harley, follow a story down the road and sometimes find myself sitting across from people who are part of the history I'm there to document.
